چکیده
Study design: Prospective study. Objectives of the study: To assess the results of recapping laminoplasty with posterior instrumentation and fusion in the management of adult low grade isthemic spondylolithesis. Background: Isthmic spondylolisthesis is a condition where there is a translational displacement of the upper vertebral body compared to the lower one secondary to a defect in the pars interarticularis. Methods: We treated10 patients, 3 men and 7 women with average age of 42.6 years using the technique of recapping laminoplasty and posterior transpedicular fixation and fusion. The mean vertebral slip was 33.5% (14-47%) preoperative, 6% (0-12%) direct postoperative and 7.4% (0-14%) after 1 year. Results: At the latest follow up visit after 1 year 9 patients achieved fusion while 1 patient had non-union. The Oswestry disability index was mild in 8 patients and moderate in 2 patients. Conclusion: Recapping laminoplasty can be used safely and effectively with anatomic reconstruction of the posterior structures for the management of adult low-grade isthmic spondylolisthesis. *Corresponding author: Ahmed Saleh Shaker, Orthopedic Department, Faculty of Medicine, Sohag University, 82524 Sohag, Egypt, Tel: +201064306080; Fax: +20934602963; E-mail: [email protected] Received February 19, 2014; Accepted March 13, 2014; Published March 16, 2014 Citation: Shaker AS, Amin AH (2014) Recapping Laminoplasty for Adult LowGrade Isthmic Spondylolisthesis. Replacement of Vertebral Lamina (Laminoplasty) in Surgery for Lumbar Isthmic Spondylolisthesis: 5-Year Follow-Up Results
STUDY DESIGN A review of clinical and radiological outcomes of lumbar laminoplasty (LL) for the treatment of isthmic spondylolisthesis (ISL). PURPOSE The single session performance of posterior lumbar interbody fusion with allograft in the anterior column and providing the realignment of the vertebrae was presented as a preliminary report earlier. OVERVIEW OF LITERATURE Long-term surgical o...

STUDY DESIGN Retrospective cohort study. CLINICAL QUESTION Do more adult patients affected by low grade isthmic spondylolisthesis have significant clinical and radiological improvement following posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) than those who receive posterolateral fusion (PLF)? METHODS One hundred and fourteen patients affected by adult low grade isthmic spondylolisthesis, treat...
متن کاملReplacement of vertebral lamina (laminoplasty) in surgery for lumbar isthmic spondylolisthesis. A prospective clinical study.
BACKGROUND The use of lamina as a graft for fusion in isthmic lumbar spondylolisthesis (LIS) is not known. In the present prospective clinical study, we used the laminoplasty technique and reported on its outcomes. MATERIAL AND METHOD Twenty cases that have been operated in our clinic due to G1 and G2 ISL between February 2003 and December 2006 were clinically and radiologically examined. The...
متن کاملHigh-Grade Adult Isthmic L5–S1 Spondylolisthesis: A Report of Intraoperative Slip Progression Treated with Surgical Reduction and Posterior Instrumented Fusion
Adult isthmic spondylolisthesis most commonly occurs at the L5-S1 level of the lumbar spine. Slip progression is relatively rare in adults with this condition and slippage is typically associated with advanced degeneration of the disk below the pars defect. When symptomatic, radiculopathy is the typical complaint in adults with isthmic spondylolisthesis. When considering options for surgical tr...
متن کاملComparison of Functional Outcomes following Surgical Decompression and Posterolateral Instrumented Fusion in Single Level Low Grade Lumbar Degenerative versus Isthmic Spondylolisthesis
BACKGROUND The two most common types of surgically treated lumbar spondylolisthesis in adults include the degenerative and isthmic types. The aim of this study was to compare the functional outcomes of surgical decompression and posterolateral instrumented fusion in patients with lumbar degenerative and isthmic spondylolisthesis. METHODS In this retrospective study, we reviewed the clinical o...
